New Podcast: Field Notes from the Gaza Battlefield
A conversation with Matti Friedman about his viral review essay of a controversial new book by an anthropologist and IDF Colonel.
As I mentioned last week, a lot of people have been discussing Matti Friedman’s characteristically sharp, insightful, and humane review of the recently published field notes of IDF reserve officer and anthropologist Asaf Hazani. I talked with Matti about the book, his review, and the challenges faced by IDF soldiers on the Gaza battlefield, and—as promised—asked him some of the questions you sent me. Now the podcast is up on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Take a listen and, if you get a chance, let me know what you think.
Fwiw substack is wonderful yet lamentable, if I go to read emails/multitask on my phone the embedded here podcast stops, but audio readout of articles if enabled functions fine across the web on my phone 🤦
Are you aware of Asaf shoval? His name is linked but there's no link to his site and he's not here on substack.
Michael Oren wrote an article in November 23 that I just restacked about a book I'd not been aware of linked here and that author was mentioned.

My ex-wife worked for Harry Lerner at Lerner publishing in Minneapolis 25 years ago and i was earlier reading about the lamentable lack of Jewish contextual Jewish pride children's books. Not surprising but what's your take?
